What are Planetary and Talismanic Stones?

Planetary stones are gemstones linked with different planets. Usually, the gemstone is linked with the ruling planet of a person’s birth. These gemstones are said to be powerful amulets and talismans for protection, luck, wealth and bringer of great benefits to the correct zodiac-sign bearer.

Talismanic stones are gemstones cut in a magical ritual and fashioned as an animal or fetish or symbol of the planet or zodiacal sign. They can also be engraved and worn as jewelry. Wearers are believed to be protected from evil by the magic that these gemstones represent and possess.

Before the modern birthstone list, the traditional birthstones associated with June were Emerald, Agate and Turquoise.

The modern birthstone list changed all of the above. Now June birthstones are Pearl, which is a stone of the moon, Moonstone, the sacred stone of India which is believed to be a powerful fertility gemstone also associated with the Moon and the rare color-change gemstone Alexandrite that show a vivid green to bluish green in daylight or fluorescent light, and an intense red to purplish red in incandescent light.

Note, the Modern-day Birthstone List began in the United States in 1912. This idea was obtained from the breast plate of Aaron, the Jewish high priest and also from The Foundation Stones of the Heavenly City found in the New Testament book of Revelations.

This breast plate is described in great detail in Exodus 28:15-21 where each of the 12 gemstones represents one of the 12 sons of Jacob, later known as Israel. Each gemstone was engraved with a name of one of the twelve sons of Israel [Note, some say these names represent Tribes of the nation of Israel which did not exist then. Other scholars say they represent the 12 constellations or the signs of the Zodiac which is sort of blasphemous]. Though Biblical scholars do not agree on the exact name of the modern-day names of these gemstones (also, on the exact position of each stone), it is assumed that in the first row of the breast plate was placed Carnelian, Chrysolite and Emerald; Turquoise, Sapphire and Amethyst in the second row; Jacinth, Agate, and Crystal in the third row and in the fourth and last row, Beryl, Lapis Lazuli and Jasper.

This breastplate was considered extremely sacred and was used when the high priest wished to communicate with God.

Enter feng shui.

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese method of divination or geomancy that is able to calculate and harmonize the energy forces in the surroundings with that of the individual or dwelling.

Here I will only discuss two June gemstones, the Moonstone and the Pearl.

Moonstone gives forth a calm Yin energy. It is of the Water element, so it balances well in places that have a surplus of Fire energy. The best area to put a Moonstone is the Southwest ‘Bagua’ area, which is the area of marriage and love.

Moonstones have been known and used by ancient cultures where moonstones have been found. They were held as sacred with great healing properties. Moonstones come in a variety of colors including white, yellow, cream, orange, and with a rainbow-colored iridescence. It helps the wearer to obtain mental clarity, increase fertility, and obtain emotional balance or stability and help give the wearer a restful sleep.

Pearl, too, is a Water element in Feng Shui. It represents purity, fluidity and beauty. Pearl is perfect for those who have a fiery temperament as it brings a balance to the emotional body. Like Moonstone, Pearl emanates feminine energy and thus is a great talisman for young women to carry.

Pearls have been known since ancient times as powerful healers and were used as powerful amulets. In the ancient Sanskrit text the Atharvaveda, pearls were said to bestow long life and prosperity.

As Pearls are made mostly of calcium carbonate, it was believed that wearing them protect our bones and teeth.

Pearls give a soothing, calm, water energy that bring relaxation, inner peace and balance.
