PINK OPAL
Pink Opal is a natural, pink colored gem-variety of the Common Opal which is composed of Opal, Palygorskite and Chalcedony. It was also known as Rose Opal.

Pink Opal symbolized baby Cupid and was called the Opal of Childhood.

Pink Opal occurs in the most rich and vivid pink color. Though it has a hardness of 6, it is a delicate gem. There is another Pink Opal that is harder and that can be set into rings. It is the Pink Peruvian Opal which occurs mixed slightly with Chalcedony.

Pink Opal does not display the beautiful color play that one finds in precious Opal, but the body color is so rich and gorgeous and attractively stunning.

The ancient Egyptians and Babylonians used opal as a powerful protection against diseases and named it the “Gem of the Gods”.

Opal was used as a protective amulet against evil forces, as well as a protection against lightning strikes and against the terrors that comes with the night.

Opal was also known as Patronus Furum (the Patron of Thieves) because supposedly it bestowed the gift of invisibility.

Opal protected the wearer from malignant diseases such as cholera and sickness of the kidneys.


PINK ROSE QUARTZ
First of all, do not confuse Rose Quartz for Pink Quartz. They are not the same. The latter is extremely rare while Rose Quartz is common and can be found in abundance. Pink Quartz crystals are microcrystalline whereas Rose Quartz's are macrocrystalline. Pink Quartz is sensitive to light and will fade in prolonged direct sunlight. Both Quartz are formed in different environment.

Rose quartz is usually opaque with the highest quality stones being translucent. The opaque specimens are usually cut en cabochons and the translucent pieces faceted. Rose Quartz are also carved into animal figurines, statues, leaves or other ornaments.

Pink rose quartz is a soft, light to medium pink color. It occurs as large gemstones.

Since it is a variety of quartz, it has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. This means that it is durable, and can be worn as rings and bracelets, but most importantly, it is affordable. Pink rose quartz is a lovely crystal that displays a beautiful cloudy translucency. It can also occur as transparent, but these are rare, and usually faceted. Pink Rose Quart is perfect for strung jewellery such as pendants and earrings, as well as cabochon jewelry.

Rose Quartz has been used as ornamental carvings of figurines and statues for thousands of years. Stone masks made of rose quartz had been recovered from Egyptian and Roman tombs.

Pink zircon has a good hardness, 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, but because of its brittle tenacity, it is not recommended for rings or bracelets as they are more prone to knocks and cracks. It is good for pendants, earrings, pins and brooches.

Zircon possesses many healing properties. In the Middle Ages, this gem was thought to induce sound sleep, drive away evil spirits, and promote riches, honour and wisdom.

It is usually transparent and can be found in large sizes. It is mined in the United States where it was originally found, but with a recent find in East Africa, Rhodolite is now easily available.

Like all garnets, rhodolite has a hardness of 6.5 - 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. This means that it is durable enough for rings and bracelets.

All garnets honour Sekhmet, the Egyptian Goddess of War. She is the most powerful goddess of Lower Egypt, and is usually depicted with the head of a lion and the body of a beautiful woman.

PINK MORGANITE
Pink Morganite is related to both emerald and aquamarine. That is to say, it belongs to the beryl family of gemstones.

The pink species of beryl is known as Morganite. This name is given in honour of the American banker and gemstone collector, J.P. Morgan. Morganite is known for its transparent peach pink color though its color ranges from pale pink to pink, violet-pink, peachy-pink or salmon color. Afghanistan is the main source for morganite.
