The Super Seven Quartz Crystal

The Super Seven Quartz Crystal

The Super Seven quartz crystal is also known as the Melody Stone and the Sacred Seven. As the name suggests, the Super Seven quartz is a quartz crystal that is made up of seven minerals, such as Goethite, Cacoxenite, Lepidocrocite, Rutile, Amethyst, Clear Quartz, and Smoky Quartz.

This amazing crystal is found in only one place in the world – the Minas Gerais region of Brazil which is also called “Espirito Santo” meaning “'Holy Spirit”.

This stone is a combination of seven different crystals, therefore carries the properties of all seven crystals as one. It is for the same reason that it is one of the most powerful stone available for healing purposes. This potent psychic powerhouse is highly sought after by healers.

Super Seven retains its own energy in abundance and never requires cleansing or energizing.

Let us take this precious crystal apart and learn about each mineral that makes this crystal a unique and magical stone.

1) Goethite derives its name from the German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832). Goethite is of an iron oxide-hydroxide chemical composition. It has been used since ancient times as a paint pigment or brown ochre [used, for example, in the caves of Lascaux in France]. Goethite's hardness ranges from 5-5.5 on the Mohs scale. It has an adamantine to dull luster. It comes in yellowish to reddish to dark brown or black colors. It is rarely used as a gemstone. Goethite occurs mainly as fibrous crystals. Crystal healers believe that this is a stone for spiritual and physical communication.

2) Cacoxenite is derived from the Greek words KAKOC XEINOS meaning EVIL or BAD and GUEST. It is an iron aluminum phosphate chemical composition. It is associated with iron ores. Cacoxenite has a hexagonal crystal structure with a hardness ranging from 3-4 on the Mohs scale. It comes in yellow to brownish yellow, reddish orange, golden yellow, deep orange, green, and yellow in transmitted light. It has a silky luster. Cacoxenite grows in fibrous bundles. It is not used as a gemstone. However, it comes as inclusions within clear quartz crystals. Cacoxenite raises our spiritual awareness and thus helps us understand our divine purpose in this life.

3) Lepidocrocite is derived from the Greek LIPIS for Scale and KROKIS for Fiber. This is because it occurs in flattened scales aggregated into plumose groups and rosettes in a massive, bladed to fibrous or micaceous crystal habit. Lepidocrocite also known as Esmeraldite or Hydrohematite, is of an iron oxide-hydroxide chemical composition. Lepidocrocite has an orthorhombic crystal structure with a hardness of 5 on the Mohs scale. It has a submetallic luster and a yellow-brown streak. It is red to reddish brown in color. Lepidocrocite forms when iron-containing substances rust underwater.

Lepidocrocite has the same chemical formula as goethite, but with a different crystal structure. Lepidocrocite is said to enhance communication between lovers. It also blocks negative energy and is thought to calm hyperactivity.

4) Rutile is primarily a titanium dioxide mineral. It is derived from the Latin RUTILUS, Red, alluding to the deep red color observed in some specimens when viewed by transmitted light. "Rutile has one of the highest refractive indices at visible wavelengths of any known crystal and also exhibits a particularly large birefringence and high dispersion. Owing to these properties, it is useful for the manufacture of certain optical elements, especially polarization optics, for longer visible and infrared wavelengths up to about 4.5 μm. Natural rutile may contain up to 10% iron and significant amounts of niobium and tantalum." [Wikipedia: Rutile].

Rutile occurs in a tetragonal crystal structure. It comes in brown, reddish brown, blood red, red, brownish yellow, pale yellow, yellow, pale blue, violet, rarely grass-green, grayish black colors.

On the Mohs scale hardness, it ranges from 6.0 to 6.5 and has an adamantine to submetallic luster.

Rutile occurs in gemstones mainly as inclusions specially in quartz (rutile quartz) and topaz. These inclusions can be seen with the naked eye. It is also responsible for asterism (star effect) and chatoyancy (cat’s eye) in some gemstones. It gives rubies and sapphire the “silk” that is highly valued by gemologists.

Rutile brings everything into balance. It brings inner peace and eases the negative energies arising from worry and anxiety. It amplifies the power of quartz crystals and also the thoughts of the wearer.

5) Amethyst comes from the Greek word AMETHYSTOS which means "not intoxicated". This was because of its color resemblance to grape wine and the belief among the ancient Greeks that this crystal had the power to keep you from getting drunk.

Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz. It comes in shades of lilac with pink undertones, lavender, deep purple plums, brownish purple and raspberry color with red and blue tones. Irradiation and trace elements of iron and/or manganese produces the color and intensity of purple.

Amethyst is transparent to translucent with a glass-like luster or shine. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.

Amethyst and Citrine come from the same family of quartz of the mineral silicon dioxide. The only difference, of course, is the color. The presence of iron and aluminum is the cause of the color purple and the color yellow in both Amethyst and Citrine. These two quartzes are often found together in the same place.

Amethyst is translucent to transparent, and often occurs as geodes. These amethyst crystal structures inside rock cavities or geodes can be extremely large. But it is the smaller sections that are made into gemstones.

Since ancient times Amethyst has been the symbol of the highest degree of spirituality. It has a tremendous power to oppose evil, not only in the mind but also as a spiritual force, and the evil of others. It also has the power to oppose drunkenness and the sins of over-indulgence. Amethyst has always been used as a protection stone against psychic attacks or witchcraft, poison and evil forms of thinking. It was a semi-precious stone used to secure the help of princess, high priests, people with wealth, influence and power.

6) Rock Crystal is known as Shui Ching in Chinese which means "water perfectly clear". It may be compared with the Greek word Krustallos which means ice and both terms refer to Rock Crystal Quartz. Rock Crystal (better known as Clear Quartz) is the purest variety of quartz. It is composed of silicon dioxide and is transparent and colorless. It is clear as it doesn't contain any trace minerals. Rock Crystal has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. It has a glass-like luster with a strong piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties.

It is said that Rock Crystal encloses within itself all the knowledge and secrets of the past, present and future.

Wearing rock crystal will banish nightmares and rid of curses. It guards against all sorts of black and evil witchcraft, envious friends, and the evil thoughts and intentions of others against you.

It has been said that in the presence of poison, Rock Crystal would break or become cloudy. For this reason, the ancients made beautiful goblets from Rock Crystal.

Rock Crystals help prevent infectious diseases, tumors, blood impurities, heart problems, feet troubles, bowel troubles, and kidney failure.

Some Clear Quartz contain inclusions of Goethite, Rutile, Hematite and other minerals. Rutile Quartz are quartz with Rutile inclusions. These needle-like inclusions are usually of golden, reddish or black in color.

7) "Smoky quartz is a brownish grey, translucent (to transparent) variety of quartz that ranges in clarity from almost complete transparency to an almost-opaque brownish-gray or black crystal. Like other quartz gems, it is a silicon dioxide crystal. The smoky colour results from free silicon formed from the silicon dioxide by natural irradiation." [Wikipedia: Smoky quartz].

Smoky Quartz crystal habit is a 6-sided prism ending in 6-sided pyramid (typical), drusy, fine-grained to microcrystalline, and massive. It has a vitreous luster and waxy to dull when massive. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.

Smoky quartz is considered a most magical crystal, and is believed to protect the carrier against all forms of negative energy, including psychic attacks and witchcraft. It is a great crystal healer. Smoky quartz is believed to ground the wearer.

This idea of putting sacred stones in one piece of jewelry for protection is also found in India under the term NAVARATNA which means Nine Gems Jewelry. Navaratnam jewelry contain nine sacred Jyotish gemstone that are believed to be extremely powerful and beneficial to the wearer. Its nine gemstones are diamond, pearl, red coral, orange hessonite garnet, blue sapphire, chrysoberyl cat's eye, yellow sapphire, emerald and ruby. The only difference is that whereas in Navaratna there are nine specifically gemstones set in gold, with the Super Seven Quartz crystal, on the other hand, all these powerful minerals come naturally in each Super Seven Quartz crystal piece.
